Fifty-two new Fellows elected into the Canadian Academy of Engineering

Ottawa–(14 June 2021)President Yves Beauchamp announced the election of fifty new Fellows and twonew International Fellows into the Canadian Academy of Engineering on June 14,2021.The announcementis made in conjunction with the Academys 2021 Annual General Meeting which was held by video conferencedue to the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.The Induction Ceremony,whichwill honor both the 2020 and 2021 elected Fellows,has been postponed to October 2021,and will be heldvirtually.

Dr.Beauchamp commented:Over the past 33 years,Fellows of the Academy have provided engineeringleadershipinthefieldsofeducation,infrastructure,innovation,energy,transportation,and many more.New Fellows have been selected for their outstanding contributions to engineering in Canada and aroundthe world and for their service as role models in their fields and to their communities.Citations and photographsfor each of the new inductees follow.

The Canadian Academy of Engineering(CAE)is the national institution through which individuals,whohave made outstanding contributions to engineering in Canada,provide strategic advice on matters of criticalimportance to Canada and to Canadians.The CAE is an independent,self-governing,and non-profitorganization established in 1987.Fellows of the CAEare nominated and elected by their peers,in view oftheir distinguished achievements and career-long service.Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Engineeringare committed to ensuring that Canadas engineering expertise is applied to the benefit of all Canadians.

The Canadian Academy of Engineering works in close cooperation with other senior academies in Canadaand internationally.It is a founding member of the Council of Canadian Academies,along with theRoyal Society of Canada(RSC)and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences(CAHS).The CAE is also amember of the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences(CAETS),which includes 31 similar national bodies around the world and the Partnership Group for Science andEngineering(PAGSE),an association of more than 20 Canadian organizations in science and engineering,whose mandate is to educate and inform federal Parliamentarians,decision makers and other leaders of theimportance and significance of Canadian research and innovation to economic development,and society asa whole.
